Washington DC – Peter Mouskondis, President of Nicholas and Company, accepted an invitation to join First Lady Michelle Obama for the 2014 State of the Union Address tonight. Nicholas and Company is a 75 year old food service distributor based in Salt Lake City, Utah. For nearly three decades, extraordinary Americans who exemplify the themes and ideals laid out in the State of the Union Address have been invited to join the First Lady in her viewing box. Mouskondis is going take a seat near Michelle Obama; Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden; and Valerie Jarrett, senior adviser to the president. The Obama Administration did not specify why they chose Mouskondis but acknowledged the culture, wellness, and health benefits Nicholas and Company provides for their team members.
“Our success at Nicholas and Company is directly related to our family-friendly approach and the work of my grandmother, mother, and wife in making work-life balance an essential part of our culture,” Mouskondis said in a statement.
Among those who will be joining Peter in the first lady’s box this year are Jason Collins, the 12-year NBA veteran who in April became the first male player in major American team sports to come out openly as gay, and Boston Marathon bombing survivors Carlos Arredondo and Jeff Bauman.
