Congratulations to Jackson Hole High School on their recent state victory of the Prostart Invitational!

ProStart is a class and education foundation sponsored by the National Restaurant Association. Each year 140,000 high school students participate in ProStart, which brings the restaurant industry into the classroom through a culinary curriculum that emphasizes practical skills and exposure to professional kitchen operations.

The culminating event for students in this class is the state ProStart Invitational. Each Spring, teams from across each state compete in a cooking competition. The competition consists of teams of 4 students who prepare a 3-course meal in one hour– using only 2 small butane burners for heat, and no refrigeration or electricity! Teams are not only judged on their food, but also on safety and sanitation, teamwork, professionalism and also complete an extensive management piece which includes recipe costing and menu pricing.

The team from Jackson Hole High was fortunate enough to win Wyoming state this year but even more exciting than the state title is the scholarship money that was awarded to each of the JHHS team members. Each student was awarded over $40,000 in various culinary school scholarships to top schools like Culinary Institute of America, Johnson and Wales, and New England Culinary Institute!

Even more exciting is that because of our State victory, Team Jackson has been invited to represent Wyoming at National ProStart Invitational in Charleston, SC and compete for another round of culinary scholarships!
